How to choose a heater
Start with the room: how long it needs heating, and whether you want warmth immediately or a steady temperature around the clock.
- Power per square metre. In an insulated flat count on 60–100 W per m²: a 20 m² room needs a 1500–2000 W unit.
- Panel heater and convector. For continuous heating. A panel is slim and stays on the wall; a convector often comes on castors and moves between rooms.
- Oil radiator. Slower to warm up but keeps giving heat after switching off. A good bedroom choice because it runs silently.
- Fan heater. The fastest result — warm air in a couple of minutes. Suits a garage, workshop or bathroom; too noisy for constant heating.
- Patio heater. Infrared warms people rather than air, so it works outdoors. Check the moisture rating: IP24 under a roof, IP55 in the open.
- Smart features. WiFi and a thermostat hold the temperature and switch the heat off once the room is warm — that is where the electricity bill actually drops.
Safety
Never cover a heater and keep the space in front of it clear. For a bathroom choose a moisture-rated model only. Overheat protection is on every model we sell; tip-over protection is standard on fan heaters and oil radiators.
