Dock, enclosure or cloning station

Enclosure — the drive goes inside permanently and becomes an external USB drive.
Drive dock — the drive slides into a slot only while in use; handy if you swap drives often.
Cloning station — copies one drive to another at the press of a button, even without a computer.

Form factor and interface

Check the drive format: M.2 (NVMe or SATA — they are not interchangeable), 2.5″ (laptop SSD and HDD) or 3.5″ (desktop HDD, needs its own power supply). For the fastest link choose USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 or newer.
