Fountain or ordinary bowl
Many cats drink little when the water in the bowl is still. A fountain keeps water moving and runs it through a filter that catches hair and food crumbs. A wireless-pump model has no cable at the bowl, a battery model works away from a socket, and a UVC model also treats the water with light.
What to look for in a feeder
- Capacity. A 3-litre hopper holds several days of dry food for one cat; a dual-hopper feeder serves two kinds of food.
- Camera. With a camera you can check on your phone whether your pet has eaten and talk to it.
- Backup power. Batteries keep the feeding schedule running through a power cut.
- Desiccant. The cartridge in the hopper lid keeps food crunchy — replace it regularly.
